Greenways, Festival Streets, Transit, and More on Beacon Hill! - Saturday May 4

What is a Greenway, and how will this change the livability and community experience of Beacon Hill? This walk will begin by heading south on Beacon Ave, the "Main Street" of North Beacon Hill, towards Jefferson Park, a neighborhood favorite. We will then head back up the the light rail station, this time heading north along Beacon Hill's brand new Greenway route. Along the way we will talk more about greenways, festival streets, transit, neighborhood development, supporting local, independent business, cultural groups and activities, and parks.

After the walk is over, stick around for a bit! El Centro de la Raza will be having a Cinco de Mayo celebration starting at 1 pm, so be sure to stay and join in on the festivities.

When: Saturday, May 4, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Walk Leader: Devor Barton of Beacon B.I.K.E.S. (Better Infrastructure Keeping Everyone Safe)

Meet up at: In front of the Beacon Hill Light Rail Station, 2116 13th Ave S, Seattle WA 98144. Cross streets are Beacon Ave. S. and S. Lander St., and there's a pay parking lot across from the light rail station as well.

Learn about cycling around Seattle on your own or with kids. Description:
Have you ever thought "There’s got to be another way" as you sat in traffic? Do you want to start biking to the store or work? Then this workshop is for you! Come hang out with Morgan Scherer of FamilyBike Seattle to learn more about using bikes to get where you need to go in the city -- both as an individual and as a family.

Biking for transportation can be safe, fun, practical, inexpensive and good for the environment. We’ll discuss the benefits and barriers to getting started, as well as provide inspiration and information to help you enjoy biking more.

In this discussion-oriented workshop, you’ll learn about:

- Choosing the right bike for you
- Bike riding with kids
- Traffic laws and safety
- Route planning: finding flatter and calmer routes
- What to do when it rains
- Carrying your stuff

Scherer has been biking in the city with her kids for 13 years and biking for transportation for 30 years. She has inspired people of all ages and abilities to try getting around town by bike and is the founding director of FamilyBike Seattle, an organization that supports family biking.
